Most Popular Places for Yoga Retreats
Imagine waking up to the sound of ocean waves, surrounded by lush jungle, or gazing at misty mountains while settling your mind and stretching into your body. Yoga retreats offer a chance to disconnect from daily life, deepen your practice (or kickstart one!), and reconnect with yourself in breathtaking destinations. In the last 10 years since I started leading retreats, the market has become quite saturated. Whether you seek a luxury escape, a nature-immersed getaway, or a beginner-friendly introduction to yoga, there’s a perfect yoga retreat for you. They key is knowing what to look for– and where.
Best Yoga Retreats in the US
The United States offers diverse landscapes for yoga retreats, from beachside getaways to mountain sanctuaries. With a variety of climates and yoga styles, finding your ideal retreat is simple if you know what you want. Below, you’ll find two categories for retreats: most common and more off-the-grid and unique.
California + Arizona: Big Sur, Sedona, Ojai
California is a mecca for wellness seekers. Big Sur boasts dramatic cliffs and ocean views, making it an ideal spot for meditative yoga. Esalen Institute is a renowned retreat center offering yoga, meditation, and personal growth workshops. Look for teachers like: Janet Stone, or read workshop names to see what might resonate with your desires and interests. In Sedona, Arizona, the red rock formations and powerful energy centers create a spiritual backdrop, with retreats focusing on healing and mindfulness. I led two sold-out retreats in nearby Carefree, Arizona at one of the world’s finest wellness resorts, CIVANA. Ojai, known for its artistic and bohemian community, offers boutique yoga retreats with organic food and holistic wellness.
Hawaii: Maui, Kauai
For those who want to mix yoga with tropical beauty, hiking and Tahitian culture- Hawaii is a dream destination. Maui’s Lumeria Retreat Center is a top choice, offering daily yoga, meditation, and farm-to-table meals. Kauai, with its lush rainforests and sacred energy, is home to retreats that blend adventure and mindfulness, such as Kauai Yoga & Wellness Retreats.
Utah & Montana: Mountain Retreats
If you’re drawn to cooler climates and the grounding energy of mountains, Utah, New Mexico and Montana have excellent options. Feathered Pipe Ranch in Montana is one of the oldest retreat centers in the U.S., offering nature-based yoga retreats with a rustic-luxury feel. I led a sold out retreat to Feathered Pipe in 2022 and we all loved it! Nestled in Zion National Park, Namastay is a true sanctuary. Its proximity to the park allows an opportunity for participants to hike and enjoy the town of Springdale combined with the introspective work of a retreat. My group loved this retreat location so much that I’m going back again in 2026. Lesser considered New Mexico has some affordable and rustic options, as well. I led a group to Taos for a cozy and rustic, laid-back experience.
The Caribbean: Beachside Yoga
Beach lovers will adore yoga retreats in the Caribbean. Just be sure to avoid hurricane season and peak summer heat! Casa Alternavida provides yoga classes, retreats and wellness workshops for individuals and corporate groups. One of my favorite retreat destinations — away from noisy streets and heavy tourism is Stonefield Villa Resort. My group loved the friendly staff, glorious villas and spectacular rooftop yoga classes with Piton views!
Best Yoga Retreats in the World
Beyond the US, there are stunning yoga retreat locations across the globe that cater to all levels, budgets, and preferences. Some things to consider: Weather during the time you’re planning to visit (rainy season and cyclone season are not always ideal times for travel); Teaching Staff (research their education/ background, retreat format/ curriculum & check their social media to hear their voice & get a sense for their teaching style. You can always reach out to ask questions before you register!)
Bali, Indonesia: Ubud, Canggu
Bali is a paradise for yoga lovers, especially in Ubud and Canggu. The Yoga Barn in Ubud is famous for its diverse classes, workshops, and holistic healing therapies. For a more intimate experience, Desa Seni in Canggu combines eco-friendly luxury with traditional Balinese culture. My group opted for Floating Leaf Eco-Resort, a peaceful and all-encompassing experience with incredible food, staff, rooms/ amenities and a beautiful yoga shala.
India: Rishikesh, Kerala
India, the birthplace of yoga, is a must-visit for dedicated practitioners. Rishikesh, set along the sacred Ganges River, is home to world-class yoga schools and spiritual retreats, such as Parmarth Niketan. In Kerala, AyurYoga Eco Ashram offers a blend of yoga and Ayurveda, ideal for those seeking a transformative healing experience.
South & Central America: Jungle & Beachfront Retreats
Costa Rica’s eco-friendly retreats provide the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. Some popular retreat centers include: Anamaya Resort in Montezuma, which offers cliffside yoga with ocean views, while Blue Spirit in Nosara integrates yoga, wellness, and sustainability in a serene setting. I opted for some more understated destinations: Lake Atitlan, Guatemala at the lovely Villa Sumaya, the Galapagos Islands and a new offering in 2026: Mizata in El Salvador!
Thailand: Koh Samui, Chiang Mai
Thailand is a popular destination for both beachfront and jungle retreats. Samahita Retreat in Koh Samui is renowned for its detox and yoga programs, while Chiang Mai’s Mala Dhara Eco Resort focuses on sustainable living and intimate yoga retreats. I partnered with bestselling novelist John Shors to offer a unique retreat to parts of: Thailand, Cambodia & Vietnam.
Europe: Portugal, Spain & Iceland
Europe offers a blend of history, culture, and wellness. Portugal has recently risen in the retreat ranks to become a popular getaway destination. Vale de Moses is a nature retreat in the mountains, perfect for deep relaxation. Spain’s Shanti Som, near Marbella, is a luxurious wellness retreat with yoga, spa treatments, and nourishing meals. Iceland is the first place I ever led a yoga retreat. The blend of outdoor adventure and introspective yoga practice made this a fun and dynamic retreat locale!
