Las Vegas dazzles with its bright lights, shows, sports betting, restaurants and casinos– but honestly it’s not quite my vibe. I’ve visited dozens of times– usually for bachelorette parties, work events or friends’ milestone birthdays. My most recent visit was a short stopover on the way to/from a yoga retreat in Utah.
As a yoga retreat leader, it’s important for me to be at the top of my game before everyone arrives, and to properly spend time decompressing (usually alone) to reflect on the week that passed. So, I wasn’t looking for a party in Vegas.
I was thrilled to discover that beyond the neon lies a world of natural wonder waiting to soothe your spirit.
Two must-experience hiking spots? Valley of Fire State Park and Red Rock Canyon.
Valley of Fire State Park is 1 hour from Vegas. A day pass entry is just $15 per vehicle and gives you access to the Park from sunrise to sunset.
This is a one-way-in, one-way-out Park where you drive to various trailheads and parking areas, then hike.

Hikes near Las Vegas to Check Out:
Explore the Fire Wave Trail—a 1.5-mile roundtrip hike showcasing swirling sandstone waves in fiery reds and creams. Don’t miss White Domes Trail, an easy loop with slot canyons and film-worthy landscapes.
Others spots I loved:
Pastel Canyon Trail
Mouse’s Tank (Petroglyphs!)
Closer to the Strip, Red Rock Canyon requires a $22 per vehicle fee for its scenic drive and trail access. Popular routes include the Calico Tanks Trail, a moderate 2.2-mile hike with vibrant rock formations and a view of the Las Vegas skyline, and the Ice Box Canyon Trail, a 2.6-mile trek offering seasonal waterfalls.
Because Red Rock is so close to the city, you can easily start your day here, or use this as a pause between partying. I could easily spend a day here with a book, a picnic, and music. It’s safe for solo travelers or would be a fun addendum to a weekend getaway for fitness or nature enthusiasts.

Best Hikes Near Las Vegas to Reset Yourself
These trails aren’t just hikes—they’re a reset. Driving the loop and listening to music, I felt like I had been transported to a different planet.
The beauty of Red Rock is the perfect tee-up to the bright lights and long nights of Vegas. It primes your inner glow to match all the outward glimmer and shine.
Special shoutouts to my local friends for the recommendations: Brandon, Lizette, and Lisa. Thank you for always guiding me toward the good. I am lucky to be in your orbit.
