mallorca travel guide

If you’re craving something soulful, sunlit, and effortlessly chic—Palma de Mallorca is calling.

There’s something about island life that slows your breath and softens your shoulders. After spending a few grounded, golden days in Palma de Mallorca, I can say with full confidence: this Balearic beauty is magnetic. A mix of Mediterranean charm, cosmopolitan elegance, and soulful simplicity, Mallorca is more than a destination—it’s a sensory awakening.

Whether you’re craving top rated cuisine, a peaceful perch to rest your head, or a little sparkle for a special occasion, Palma de Mallorca delivers with ease and authenticity.

Where to Stay:

There are resorts, high-end chain hotels and plenty of wellness spas more than an hour from the city, but let me tell you about this hidden gem! Tucked just enough away to feel like a peaceful pocket, yet close enough to walk to the buzzing Palma Port, Hotel Feliz is an ideal home base.

Hotel Feliz

Think:
A sun-soaked rooftop with panoramic views.
A breakfast buffet that genuinely deserves a slow morning.
Rooms that feel modern, clean, and (true to its name) happy.

The hotel is surrounded by a neighborhood that feels safe and relaxed, and it’s within walking distance of shops, restaurants, bars, and the charming boardwalk. Located about 20 minutes from the airport, there is a parking garage across the street if you have a rental car, and it’s easy to catch an Uber as well. The staff is helpful and friendly and my personal experience matched the reviews I read online beforehand… a perfect landing spot for solo travelers or even couples. Hotel Feliz is a true gem for travelers who love ease, accessibility, and that boutique-style intimacy.

Where to Eat in Mallorca

Stagier Bar

A culinary experience worth savoring, Stagier Bar is a meal I’ll remember for years. A Michelin restaurant, every dish was thoughtfully plated and bursting with Latin American flavor, texture, and intention.

Expect an elegant, intimate setting with service that is warm yet refined—like dining in the home of a world-class chef who also happens to be your old friend. With very limited seating, this is the spot to book in advance. Trust me: it’s worth planning your trip around.

La Rosa Catalina

For something quintessentially local, stop in at La Rosa Catalina, a classic vermutería with a lively atmosphere and deep-rooted tradition.

Vermouth—or as the locals call it, vermut—is more than a drink in Mallorca, it’s a ritual. Slightly sweet, a little herbal, and beautifully complex, it’s served over ice with an orange twist or a green olive. Sip slowly, snack abundantly, and soak up the buzz of community and conversation.

This is where Palma’s old soul and young heart meet.

Where to Sip:

Aga Bar

Looking for a relaxed yet stylish spot to toast to your travels? Aga Bar is it.

With a local crowd and a chic, unfussy atmosphere, this is the kind of place that invites connection. Start with an aperitif, stay for a spontaneous evening. There’s a quiet magic to the way the light hits the cocktails here—and how the conversation flows a little more freely.

Why Not Cocktail Bar

Tucked away in the heart of Palma, Why Not is a cocktail bar that feels like a secret whispered from one traveler to another.

With only 12 seats, this ultra-intimate space is as much an experience as it is a bar. Each drink is masterfully crafted with precision, intention, and a hint of playful mystery. It’s the kind of place where you sit down a stranger and leave feeling like a local.

Pro tip: Make a reservation if you can—it’s tiny, and that’s the charm.

Abaco Bar

Step into another world at Abaco, one of Palma’s most exclusive and surreal cocktail bars. Housed in a 17th-century mansion, Abaco is dripping with drama—floral arrangements spilling over antique furniture, baroque music echoing through candlelit hallways, and the scent of citrus and history in the air.

Photos aren’t allowed inside, making the experience even more immersive, intimate, and a little mysterious. This is where you go when you want a drink… and a story.

Hosting a Gathering? Call Private Chef Mallorca

During my stay, I had the joy of stepping into the kitchen of Private Chef Mallorca.

Whether you’re planning a birthday, a celebration of love, or a sacred gathering of friends, their team brings not just skill, but soul. The presentation? Impeccable. The flavors? Rooted in tradition, elevated with modern flair. The experience? Luxurious and deeply personal.

A beautiful way to elevate your evening while staying right where you are.

Pro Tip: Their kitchen is not a restaurant, so book in advance! You can come to their space– or they can come to you! Check out their Instagram: @PrivateChefMallorca

After Dark: Cobblestones & Quiet Awe

After your final sip of the night, take a walk around Palma’s majestic cathedral.

At night, La Seu glows golden—its gothic arches illuminated softly as if by candlelight. Wander through the cobblestone alleyways that wrap around the old town… quiet, winding, and whispering stories with every step.

There was something in the air—maybe the salt, maybe the history—that reminded me of Dubrovnik. That same blend of stillness and strength. Of being suspended between time and tide.

No agenda, no GPS. Just follow your feet, your breath, and the echoes of the past.

Wander & Wonder Outside the City: A Day Trip to Deià and Coastal Viewpoints

Deià and coastal viewpoints Mallorca

If you have a car (or even just a free afternoon), driving along Mallorca’s western coast is like watching poetry unfold in real time.

Deià is a must. This artist’s village is tucked into the Tramuntana mountains and draped in rustic stone buildings, orange blossoms, and poetry in the breeze. Grab a coffee, explore a gallery, and let yourself step back in time.

Keep cruising the coastline and pull off for life-giving photo ops near Miramar (Valldemossa) and Mirador de Banyalbufar. That last one? Pure sunset magic.

For those craving a bit more adventure, make a stop in Llucmajor, near the sleek and stylish Mhares Sea Club. Just past the club, you’ll find a rugged staircase that winds its way down—hundreds of steps—to a secluded slice of shoreline.

It’s a proper hike (and yes, what goes down must come up!), but once you reach the turquoise water below, it feels like your own private Mediterranean dream. Bring water, wear sturdy shoes, and give yourself permission to pause—especially on the climb back. The reward? Absolute coastal bliss.

It’s a sacred kind of quiet when the sun slips into the sea…

Shop & Stroll: Santanyí Market Days

Santanyi market

If your heart beats a little faster at the sight of artisan goods, woven baskets, linen dresses, and hand-poured candles—make your way to Santanyí.

This quaint inland town is a dreamy day trip for those who love wandering through sun-dappled plazas and discovering treasures tucked into old stone buildings.

Market days are Wednesdays and Saturdays, when the town comes alive with local vendors, artists, and farmers. Stalls overflow with vibrant produce, handmade jewelry, organic skincare, ceramics, and textiles that feel straight out of a Mediterranean mood board.

Sip a cortado in the square, browse with intention, and maybe pick up a keepsake that smells like lavender or salt air.

Santanyí is more than just a market—it’s neighborly charm, and a slice of Mallorca you’ll want to bottle up and take home.

Local Treasures: Sea Salt & Storytelling at Salinas d’es Trenc

ventura to Salinas d'es Trenc mallorca

For a truly grounding, sensory experience, venture to Salinas d’es Trenc—where Mallorca’s iconic sea salt is still harvested by hand from sun-kissed coastal flats.

Take the 45-minute guided tour to learn about the centuries-old tradition of salt harvesting, the role of flamingos in the ecosystem, and how nature and patience come together to create this mineral-rich gift from the sea. The salt glistens like tiny diamonds under the Mediterranean sun, and the process feels meditative.

mallorca vacation ideas

After the tour, pop into the boutique shop for beautifully packaged sea salt—some blended with herbs or citrus, others left pure and perfect. It makes a meaningful souvenir or a thoughtful gift, especially for foodies and wellness lovers alike.

Best Time to Visit

The shoulder seasons— late spring (April-May) and late autumn (October-November)—are ideal for visiting Palma and the rest of Mallorca. During these months, the island offers a harmonious balance: pleasant weather without the overwhelming crowds of summer. The peak tourist influx between June and mid-September can leave you feeling like you’re swimming in a sea of selfie sticks.
